Our AMHR Mare

Cedar Acres Little Bit Of Honey
April 2, 2007 AMHR Mare (Miniature Horse)
Breeders: Jan & Bruce Novak
Palomino Pinto; Tobiano

Her breeder named her Honey and the name suits her - she is a honey!  I bought Honey as my future driving horse.
Honey is a flashy yearling palomino pinto (both sire and dam are pintos).  I am selling her as I bought her as a driving prospect from her breeder and Honey has started having stifle lock problems.  I have found out that her sire and grandsire have stifle lock too so it looks to be genetic.  I let the breeder know that Honey has stifle lock and offer to take her back to the breeders but the breeder does not want her back so I am looking to sell Honey.  Her breeder has gelded her sire after I had Honey and wrote this about her sire when they gelded him:
"We took our small tri-colored stallion yesterday to be gelded.  We have learned his Dad has stifle lock and it can be passed on.  We want to be responsible breeders so he is going to be retired but since he was our first born here  he will stay as a pet I can't part with him.  The breeder who is still using his Dad should not be with this condition.  This decision was made under the advice of two vets from two different offices. They both said this can be passed on and Jacks the stallion locked up with this for almost three weeks and he is doing well now. The cold damp weather can play heck on them.  I walked him daily to keep him un-locked.  The one vet also said they are inner breeding so many minis that now it is coming up in more and more babies and they are seeing many leg problems and bad conformation.  This again is due to so many horses and the population growing as it is and breeders not being responsble with who they breed to who."

I paid $1000 for her.  She came "unbroke and untrained" due to an illness in breeders family.  I have halter trained Honey, I have been working with her on stacking and she does basic ground driving (walk and whoa).  She ties.  She is good having her ground driving harness put on.  She has had her feet trimmed routinely by a farrier.  She is up-to-date on worming.  This is a filly I was working with for a driving horse and the reason I am selling is because she has stifle lock.

Honey is healthy and the stifle lock does not effect her racing around in the field (she runs in the field with it locked with out a problem).  Some days it will lock up for brief moments and unlock and other days it will stay locked up for several minutes and relock again - but she just carries on with ever she was doing so it is not effecting her quality of life - but she is not suitable for driving the vet said.  She will make a fun pet and has had a lot of handling by me.
Make an offer - I would consider trades for a horse cart, a horse wagon, purebred Toggenburg goat, Nigerian Dwarf, Horse hay, running car or ?? - make offer I might be interested.   Will take best offer - pbde04@united.net
